2017: goals and expectations

As promised, I will be entirely dedicating this blog post to my goals and resolutions for 2017. Just to keep everything nice and tidy, I have decided to divide this post up like the one in which I reflected on 2016.

Weight-loss

Well my first goal for this year is to loose the weight I gained during Christmas and New Years. I really decided to just let myself go, and deal with the aftermath once the holidays were over. And as today is January first I have immediately started to watch what I am eating even though my fiancΓ© has really been tempting me with lots of yummy, not so healthy food haha.

Once I have accomplished this, I intend to maintain this weight for the rest of the year. Now, I know from previous attempts that this is going to be a bit of a challenge, but I have never been this determined to keep off weight before. So yes, I really, actually think that I have got this! πŸ˜€

Exercise

To be honest, I have not been doing any Yoga, since the beginning of December when I ventured into crazy deadline land and got a throat infection. Not even one single pose… I think I stopped doing it, because I was so busy that the idea of having to fit Yoga into my day just added more stress than the exercise would have been able to decrease. Now that things have calmed down, however, I fully intend to pick it up again. To proof this, I started this morning with a good 25 minute yoga session ;).

Needless to say I will of course continue to tap dance my way through 2017 :P. It is currently not entirely clear if the tap dance lessons will be going back from 1,5 hours to 1 hour after our Christmas break, but whatever happens: I am completely fine with it. As long as I can tap, I’m a happy camper.

I do hope to be adding swimming to my work-out routine as well, as I finally own a bathing suit again which isn’t three sizes to big! πŸ˜€ My best friend will be joining me, so that really will be a lot of fun!

Project confidence

Needless to say I am going to continue try and become more confident. Some of the changes I have made over 2016 are still helping me grow in this respect. As a lovely reader pointed out, I have been taking a lot more selfies and do no longer inwardly freakout when someone wants to take my picture. Since the proof is in the pudding, I have added a picture taken on December 22nd on the side ;).

I still have a long way to go though. At the moment I am not quite sure how I am going to build upon the progress I have made so far. I might set myself a monthly challenge, but as this year is going to be a busy one (see the research and PhD section below) I am as yet undecided.

Research and PhD

Now this is going to be an exciting year when it comes to my research and PhD. As every year I am planning to attend at least one conference, which is always a little bit stressful (being an introvert and all). However, because I had such a great time at the BAVS conference I went to in 2016, I am a lot less stressed about it this time round. Yeay for (project) confidence!

And on top of all that, my doctoral dissertation is due in September… Yes I have only 9 months left to complete it… *starts hyperventilating and reaches for a paper bag*.Β  so I am sure this is going to keep my plenty busy for the year.

Blog

So what can my readers expect from this blog the coming year? Apart from the regular updates, I was thinking of writing some reviews on fitness and weight-loss related apps which I myself use, such as myfitnesspall and daily yoga, just to share my experience with others. Perhaps I might even tryout new ones just to see what they are like and to share this with the world.

I am also considering writing a series of post which I might name “your own diet” (or something of the sort). Over the past year I have noticed that there are quite a number of blogs which, especially in the beginning of the year or before the start of summer, profess that their diet is the perfect diet for everyone. What I have learned, however, through my own experience, that of my loved ones and by reading lots of blogs, is that there is no such thing as the perfect diet or lifestyle change. What works for one person does not necessarily work for someone else. So I am currently considering writing a series of blogs that might help people to figure out what will work for them. What do you think readers? Would you be interested in reading this?
Also, is there perhaps something that you would like to see me write about in this blog?

Social life

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor chibird friendsDuring 2016 I have been making some changes and have tried to actually revive my social life a little. Last year I met up with three friends whom I had not seen in two (?!) years (or longer *gasp*). To ensure that I keep in touch with my friends, I have to set another date with them almost immediately after meeting-up with them. Or at least asked them to get back to me when they know what their schedules are like. I know that if I don’t, I tend to forget or simply do not give myself the time to see them, even though I really enjoy spending time with them.

So, my goal for 2017 is to continue to follow through with this change and to have lots of fun with my lovely friends!

Plan, plan, plan!

It is probably no surprise that I have to plan everything carefully when I have this much to do. I will therefore continue with decorative planning to keep organized and in an attempt to keep the stress away. I have noticed that decorative planning is incredibly therapeutic, so I will continue to decorate a path to (what is hopefully going to be) a victorious 2017 :D.

  1. Holy crap you’re one busy lady lol! I look at my planner and it says ‘Walk. Maybe.’ And then I flip to tomorrow and it says ‘Relax after walk. Maybe.’

    You’re doing just great – but remember to get ‘me time’ in there. Book a spa day with those friends and chillax πŸ˜‰

  2. I think it’s awesome that you’ve planned this all out! One of my friends was telling me (for the 3rd time or more) to stop verbalizing my plans and actually write them out. You’ve reminded me that I still need to do that lol. The categories are very fitting, and a great follow up of last year’s plans!

    I think it would be great to read about the apps and tips that have helped you achieve (and I know you will achieve again!) your weight loss goals. The name your own diet portion sounds intriguing!

    Will your tap dancing class eventually have performances or ‘recitals’? That seems like it would combine Project Confidence, Social activities and Tap dancing plans all in 1 giant event. Hopefully that doesn’t make you reach for the paper bag too! haha I love the GIF, it’s perfect for that moment.

      πŸ˜€ I am glad you like the ideas for the blog posts. I will be making a start with these this month (possibly this week even).

      There was a small recital in mid-December, but I was not able to attend, because I had so many deadlines. Though there might be one at the end of the year, but I am not quite sure. If we just have enough time to repare I wouldn’t mind standing on stage really: I used to want to go into musical theatre (I auditioned to get into theatre school), so the thought doesn’t scare me nearly enough than having to defend my thesis in September haha.

      • That will be awesome if you get to perform in a recital! I completely understand prioritizing the exams/deadlines first. That’s so exciting! The deadline seems so far away, but I know time flies. I am sure you will do wonderfully as it’s a passion for you, not just an education.
